Taking my Health Back

I'm a country girl, born and raised, and proud of it.  I grew up in a home surrounded by acres of land and horses roaming the back yard.  Saturdays were the mornings we watched cartoons cause the rest of the time we were out doing chores, riding the horses or roaming the woods with friends.  Sadly my husbands job forced us to move to the city 17 years ago and has kept us here.  The city has its advantages that I've come to love but I still long for those country days.

With everything being so quick and easy in the city i'm afraid I've found it a little to easy to get lost in the rush and let my health physically and emotionally slide to a place were I no longer truly recognize myself.  Upon discussing this with a friend and my family doctor I decided to throw myself into a 6 month commitment.  Eating better, exercising more, and participating in more of the activities I use to love.

I've decided as well to journal this process here for myself, for those of my family who love and worry about me, and for those of you who maybe going through the same things.

A hike in the woods

So luckily I have a huge Rotary Park full of hiking trails close to my house.  Today My little family decided to back their bags and get lost in the woods for a bit.  My son had a blast talking to squirrels and trying to get them to eat closer to him (and they got pretty darn close), Abbott, my dog, was in seventh heaven playing with the other dogs we past, having strangers stop to pet him, and pulling me into the trees every time he saw another squirrel.  Me?  It was perfect, the smell of moss and grass, the sound of dirt and leaves beneath my feet, the canopy of trees, I couldn't ask for a more lovely way to spend my day.
